Oxfordshire introduced stricter parking rules on South Parade, Dec. 1, 2025, to improve cycling, while major road closures for maintenance begin Jan. 2026.
Oxfordshire County Council has introduced new traffic and parking rules in Oxford starting December 1, 2025, to enhance cycling routes on South Parade while maintaining one-way motor traffic.
Changes include replacing single yellow "No Waiting" lines with stricter double yellow "No Waiting at Any Time" lines on the north side of the street, part of broader adjustments under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Affected residents may challenge the rules in the High Court within six weeks of November 24, 2025.
Meanwhile, National Highways will conduct overnight closures on the M40 (Junction 1 to 15) and A40 Denham Roundabout from January 5 to December 23, 2026, and on the A34 Trunk Road from January 2 to December 24, 2026, for maintenance, with work between 8:30 pm and 8:30 am.
Diversions will use major roads, and emergency vehicles, workers, and winter crews are exempt.
Signs will mark routes, and updates are available on the National Highways website.
