flag Manitoba opens new supervised drug site in Winnipeg, distancing it from schools amid public concern.

Manitoba has moved its first supervised drug consumption site to 366 Henry Ave. in Winnipeg’s inner city, west of Main Street, after public opposition to the original location. The new site, over 250 metres from schools or childcare facilities, will be operated by the Aboriginal Health and Wellness Centre of Winnipeg and will not supply drugs. It will provide a safe space for supervised drug use with overdose response and referrals to treatment. Health Canada approval is pending, and the site is expected to open by January. The government says it aims to reduce public drug use in streets and parks, improving safety for users and the community.
