Manipur authorities arrested militants over threats to the 2025 Sangai Festival, warning of legal action against any peace disruptors.
The Manipur government has warned that anyone threatening peace or disrupting public order will face strict legal action, following five police cases linked to threats against participants in the recently held Sangai Festival 2025.
Authorities arrested three militants, including members of banned groups, over the threats, with four more detained in separate operations.
The festival, held from November 21 to 30 after a two-year pause, drew protests from displaced people and civil society groups demanding the right to return home.
The government emphasized that no group, banned or not, can issue punishments or restrict lawful activities, and urged citizens to report threats via a 24/7 anti-extortion cell.
Security forces continue operations across the region, maintaining checkposts and escorting supply convoys.
