India to debate Vande Mataram’s 150th anniversary and election reforms in Parliament starting Dec. 8.
India will hold parliamentary debates on the 150th anniversary of the national song Vande Mataram, starting December 8 in the Lok Sabha with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, followed by the Rajya Sabha on December 9 with Home Minister Amit Shah.
Concurrently, discussions on election reforms, including the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls affecting nearly 51 crore voters, will take place in both houses from December 9–11.
The moves follow an all-party meeting and resolve prior disruptions over the SIR, which aims to verify voter eligibility and remove foreign illegal immigrants.
The Union Cabinet approved nationwide celebrations for the song’s anniversary, emphasizing its role in India’s freedom struggle and youth engagement.
