Cumbria’s new Combined Authority gets £11.4M/year for 30 years to boost local economic growth and services.
Cumbria’s new Combined Authority, launching in early 2026, has secured £11.4 million annually for 30 years from the UK government, with £11.1 million for economic development and £4 million over four years for capacity building.
The funding, confirmed by Secretary of State Steve Reed, supports local decision-making on transport, skills, and regeneration, split evenly between capital and revenue spending.
A £5.5 million pre-election boost for 2026/27 is included.
The authority will operate without a mayor for its first year before holding its first mayoral election in May 2027, aligned with local elections to reduce costs.
Both Westmorland and Furness and Cumberland councils approved the plan.
Officials hailed the investment as a major step toward regional growth and local control, separate from other devolved funds.
