China launched 14 internet satellites into orbit on Dec. 6, 2025, using a new rocket fueled by coal-based kerosene.
China launched the 14th group of low-orbit internet satellites on December 6, 2025, using a Long March-8A rocket from Wenchang, Hainan.
The mission, the fifth flight of the Long March-8A and 612th in the Long March series, successfully placed the satellites into a 700-kilometer sun-synchronous orbit.
The rocket, 50.5 meters tall and weighing 371 tonnes, used coal-based kerosene for the first time, aiming to improve sustainability, storage, and cost-efficiency.
The launch supports China’s growing mega-constellation project, with around 100 satellites deployed this year, targeting global broadband coverage.
