The Capitals signed retired goalie Parker Milner as emergency backup for their game against the Ducks after Charlie Lindgren’s injury.
The Washington Capitals signed retired goaltender Parker Milner to a professional tryout to serve as emergency backup for their game against the Anaheim Ducks after Charlie Lindgren was ruled out with an upper-body injury.
Milner, 35, last played professionally in 2020 and has since worked as a food critic and editor in Charleston, South Carolina.
Though not eligible for the new full-time emergency backup role under the upcoming CBA, he joined the team on their West Coast trip, participated in pregame warmups, and received a rookie lap—a tradition for NHL debuts—before stepping in as backup to Logan Thompson.
The move highlights the NHL’s practice of using team-affiliated practice goalies for emergencies and underscores Milner’s unique dual career.
