Two top Canadian climate advisors quit, accusing the government of ignoring expert advice and undermining net-zero goals.
Two senior members of Canada’s Net-Zero Advisory Body, Simon Donner and Catherine Abreu, have resigned, citing the federal government’s disregard for expert climate advice.
They criticized recent decisions, including a new energy agreement with Alberta and legislation to fast-track fossil fuel projects, as undermining Canada’s net-zero goals and emissions targets.
The advisory body, created in 2021, now has only four members, raising concerns about the credibility of Canada’s climate policy process as the government prepares to release an updated emissions reduction plan by December 31, 2025.
