Salisbury Zoo opens new exhibit for endangered Chacoan peccaries from U.S. zoos.
The Salisbury Zoo has introduced its first herd of five Chacoan peccaries, an endangered species native to South America, as part of a cooperative conservation effort.
The animals, named Fern, Wilma, Anjie, Adzuki, and Jelly, came from accredited U.S. zoos and are now on display in a newly upgraded habitat.
With fewer than 3,000 left in the wild, the species faces threats from habitat loss.
The zoo says the move supports both public education and long-term survival efforts for the animals.
