The Sabin Vaccine Institute has delivered over 640 doses of its investigational Marburg vaccine to Ethiopia to combat the country’s first outbreak of the deadly virus, which has caused 13 confirmed cases and eight deaths.

The vaccine, also being tested in the U.S., Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda with over 2,000 participants and no major safety issues, is supported by federal funds.

The CDC says the risk of U.S. spread remains low, but the U.S. will provide up to 2,500 vaccine doses and 25 treatment courses to support Ethiopia.
