Richard Leafe, former Lake District park chief, named University of Cumbria professor to advance conservation research and leadership.
Richard Leafe, former chief executive of the Lake District National Park Authority, has been named Professor of Practice at the University of Cumbria.
He will join the Institute of Science and Environment and the Centre for National Parks and Protected Areas, leveraging his decades of experience in environmental policy and national park management.
Leafe, who began his career in 1990 as a Coastal Geomorphologist and served as Natural England’s north west Regional Director, will support research and policy development, particularly around the global 30x30 conservation goal.
His appointment aims to strengthen the university’s impact in protected area management and prepare future environmental leaders with real-world insights.
He continues to be active in the Lake District through his mountain-guiding business, Leafe Guiding.
