Manitoba sells $1M U.S. alcohol to fund charities, amid trade-related ban on new U.S. alcohol.
Manitoba is selling $1 million worth of U.S.-made alcohol stockpiled after U.S. tariffs, with $500,000 from sales going to holiday charities in Winnipeg, Brandon, and Thompson.
The ban, imposed in March 2025, applies only to alcohol produced in the U.S., not American brands brewed in Canada.
Sales begin December 8 for private retailers and December 10 for government stores.
Premier Wab Kinew said the move supports vulnerable families, addresses expiring inventory, and demonstrates resilience amid trade tensions, while confirming the province will not purchase new U.S. alcohol.
