Ireland's M50 congestion won’t be fixed quickly, requiring €25B in long-term transport investments to reduce car use.
Minister Darragh O’Brien said there’s no quick fix for Ireland’s M50 congestion, with 150,000 vehicles daily and growing traffic.
He emphasized that long-term solutions require nearly €25 billion in transport investments under the National Development Plan, including road upgrades and improved emergency response.
While public transport reached a record 340 million journeys in 2024 and is projected to rise 10% in 2025, he stressed expanding buses, trains, light rail, and park-and-ride facilities is critical to reducing car dependency.
