India's opposition leader accuses Modi government of blocking foreign dignitaries' meetings, which it denies.
Ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s first India visit since 2022, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi accused the Modi government of blocking meetings between foreign dignitaries and the Leader of Opposition, calling it a break from past tradition under former PMs Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh.
Gandhi claimed the government discourages such interactions, citing political insecurity, while the BJP and government sources denied the allegations, stating that meetings are arranged by visiting delegations and citing multiple instances since June 2024 when foreign leaders met Gandhi.
The visit includes high-level talks on trade, science, and defense, with over 15 agreements expected.
