Holiday tipping rates dipped in 2025, with fewer Americans tipping childcare providers and teachers, though amounts stayed mostly flat.
A 2025 Bankrate survey of 2,445 U.S. adults found that tipping rates for holiday service providers are slightly down from 2024, with fewer Americans planning to tip childcare providers (47%, down from 55%) and teachers (47%, down from 53%).
Tipping for housekeepers (56%), landscapers (37%), mail carriers (27%), and trash collectors (21%) also declined.
Median tip amounts remained mostly flat—$50 for housekeepers, $25 for teachers, $20 for mail carriers, and $48 for childcare providers—though tips for landscapers and snow removers rose 67% to $50, and trash collectors saw a 25% increase to $25.
Younger generations are more likely to feel obligated to tip due to social pressure.
Forty-one percent of Americans believe tipping has gotten out of control, and many are annoyed by pre-entered tip screens.
