The 76ers overcame a 24-point deficit to beat the Warriors 99-98 on VJ Edgecombe’s buzzer-beating putback.
The Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Golden State Warriors 99-98 on Thursday, overcoming a 24-point deficit to win on VJ Edgecombe’s game-winning putback with 0.9 seconds left. Tyrese Maxey led all scorers with 35 points, while Joel Embiid, Quentin Grimes, and Edgecombe each scored 10 or more. The Warriors, missing Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green, scored just 10 points in the first quarter—the fewest in any NBA quarter this season and the lowest for Golden State since 2014. Philadelphia built a 56-34 halftime lead, but Golden State rallied with a 15-0 run in the fourth, taking a 98-94 lead on a Pat Spencer three-pointer with 1:12 remaining. Grimes tied it with a three-point play, and after Edgecombe stole the inbound pass, Maxey’s missed fadeaway was tipped in by Edgecombe. De’Anthony Melton drove for a potential game-winning layup, but Maxey blocked it at the buzzer. The Warriors have now lost six of their last eight games.
