ED raids in Meghalaya probe ₹28.66 crore fund misuse by council officials and contractors.

The Enforcement Directorate conducted its first-ever raids in Tura, Meghalaya, targeting alleged misuse of ₹28.66 crore in funds meant for development projects under the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council. The searches, carried out at five locations in West Garo Hills, focus on claims that 60% of the funds were improperly disbursed as advance payments to contractors Kubon Sangma and Nikseng Sangma, contrary to procedures. Officials allege collusion between council members and contractors, with funds reportedly directed by Ismail Marak and transferred to his accounts. The investigation, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, is ongoing.
