Australia approves A$3B expansion of Gorgon LNG project to boost gas and LNG output until 2070.
Australia has approved a A$3 billion expansion of Chevron’s Gorgon LNG project, enabling development of the Geryon and Eurytion fields via subsea tiebacks to Barrow Island infrastructure.
The Stage 3 project, following environmental approval in November after a public comment period, will add up to six new wells and support both LNG exports and Western Australia’s 15% domestic gas reservation.
The joint venture, involving Chevron, ExxonMobil, Shell, and others, can produce up to 300 terajoules of gas daily for local use and 15.6 million tons of LNG annually, with operations expected to continue until 2070.
The approval aligns with other regional energy developments, including Shell’s Crux field and ConocoPhillips’ exploration.
