Andrew Mercer sentenced to 2 years, 10 months for manslaughter after partner died falling from moving trailer during erratic drive.
Andrew Jayden Mercer, 32, was sentenced to two years and 10 months in prison for the manslaughter of his partner, Robert Douglas Ralston, after Ralston fell from a moving trailer on March 29, 2025.
The incident followed a heated argument during which Mercer, who had used methamphetamine and held only a learner’s licence, drove erratically.
After the trailer skidded and blew a tyre, Ralston jumped off and suffered fatal head injuries.
He died a month later after being on life support.
Mercer, with a history of driving offences, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and failing to take a compulsory impairment test.
His family rejected his attempts to make amends.
The judge emphasized accountability and deterrence, imposing a two-year driving ban after release.
