A 19-year-old student faces felony charges for a hit-and-run in Tempe that killed an 18-year-old motorcyclist after she allegedly drank at Tempe Tavern.
A 19-year-old Arizona State University student is facing a felony charge for failing to stop after a fatal hit-and-run in Tempe on September 14, where an 18-year-old motorcyclist died after being struck by a Waymo self-driving car and then a white Chevrolet Camaro. Police say she was at Tempe Tavern from 10:18 p.m. to 12:42 a.m. before driving and causing the crash, later turning herself in. The incident prompted a second major liquor-law enforcement operation in November, resulting in 249 arrests, mostly under 21, for underage drinking and fake IDs. Fire inspectors found at least one code violation, and the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control is investigating. The first raid at the bar in April led to nearly 170 arrests.
