Steve Cropper, the influential guitarist and co-writer of Otis Redding’s "(Sittin’ on) The Dock of the Bay," has died at age 84 in Nashville. A founding member of Booker T. & the M.G.’s and a key figure in Stax Records’ golden era, Cropper played on countless soul and R&B hits, shaping the sound of Memphis music. He remained active in music through collaborations with artists like Bob Dylan, John Fogerty, and the Blues Brothers, and released his final album, Friendlytown, in 2024. Cropper was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and received multiple Grammy nominations. He is survived by his wife Angel and four children.
