Senator Duckworth demands broader $10K bonuses for air traffic controllers after shutdown, calling narrow eligibility unfair.
Illinois Democratic Senator Tammy Duckworth is urging the Trump administration to expand $10,000 bonuses to all air traffic controllers and FAA technicians who worked during the 2025 government shutdown, not just those with perfect attendance.
She criticized the Department of Transportation’s decision to limit the bonuses to about 4% of the workforce, calling it unfair and divisive.
Duckworth argued that over 20,000 federal employees served under high stress to maintain aviation safety, and excluding the vast majority undermines morale and could discourage sick leave.
The bonuses, scheduled for distribution by December 9, were initially framed as recognition for uninterrupted service.
Union leaders and critics say the narrow criteria risk compromising safety and equity.
El senador Duckworth exige más amplias bonificaciones de $ 10K para los controladores de tráfico aéreo después del cierre, llamando injusta la elegibilidad estrecha.
