Pakistan to auction 51%-100% of PIA on Dec. 23, 2025, in IMF-backed reform effort.
Pakistan will hold a live, televised bidding process on December 23, 2025, for the privatisation of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), a key step in its $7 billion IMF-backed reform program.
Four pre-qualified consortia—Lucky Cement, Arif Habib, Fauji Fertiliser, and Airblue—are participating in the sale of a 51% to 100% stake, with management control included.
The government has transferred 80% of PIA’s debt to the state, eliminated sales tax on leased aircraft, and offered limited legal and tax protections to attract investors.
The process aims to restore PIA’s global reputation, modernize operations, and boost tourism and services for overseas Pakistanis.
The sale is expected to raise Rs86 billion and marks the country’s first major privatisation in nearly two decades.
