A new poll by the University of Sydney’s U.S. Studies Centre finds majorities in Australia, Japan, and India believe Donald Trump’s potential second term would harm their nations, with declining trust in the U.S. security alliance—especially in Australia, where support dropped to 42%, and Japan, at 47%.
Concerns over U.S. domestic instability and misinformation were widespread, and while most still support U.S. alliances, only 27% of Australians felt their government adequately explained the need for AUKUS nuclear submarines.
Negative views of China remain high across all four Quad countries.
