A $5 million project has begun to strengthen State Highway 6’s Gates of Haast bridge in New Zealand’s South Island, with work by Moore Construction focusing on protecting the vital route between Haast and Wanaka from erosion, landslides, and washouts.
Key upgrades include a micro pile wall, bridge support reinforcements, and a rock barrier along the Haast River.
The five-month effort will include reduced speed limits, single-lane traffic, and temporary closures of a vehicle bay and Willis Valley Track access.
The project supports tourism, freight, and community connectivity, following prior work on the SH6 Epitaph Slip site.
