Indian authorities seized 3,029 kg of narcotics and 260 kg of gold in six months, battling rising drug and gold smuggling.
Narcotics smuggling remains a persistent threat in India, with transnational syndicates increasingly using couriers, e-commerce, and maritime routes to traffic drugs like cocaine, methamphetamine, and ganja, according to CBIC Chairman Vivek Chaturvedi.
In the past year, authorities seized 65 kg of cocaine, 225 kg of methamphetamine, and nearly 9 tonnes of ganja.
Between April and October, 3,029 kg of narcotics worth Rs 3,365 crore were intercepted.
Gold smuggling is also rising, with 260 kg seized in 461 cases worth over Rs 254 crore during the same period.
DRI is focusing on data analytics and cross-border coordination to combat these evolving networks.
