An Illawarra man pleaded guilty to shooting his toddler son and another child with a malfunctioning gel blaster, causing serious injuries.
An Illawarra man admitted to firing a gel blaster at two young children, including his toddler son, in a 2024 incident, pleading guilty to assault, dangerous discharge of a firearm, and possession of prohibited weapons.
He claimed the device malfunctioned and said “whoops” after shooting the baby in the head, back, and shoulder, causing multiple welts, and hitting his son in the head.
The baby’s mother questioned the accident claim due to the severity of injuries, while the toddler’s mother called the act reckless.
Police found several weapons at his home during a separate investigation.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 2026 after a psychological assessment.
