Great Britain launches publicly owned energy firm to produce clean power for 10 million homes by 2030.
Great British Energy, a UK publicly owned energy company launched by the Labour Government, has unveiled its first strategy to generate enough clean energy to power nearly 10 million homes by 2030.
Based in Aberdeen and operating under the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, the company plans to develop at least 15 gigawatts of onshore, offshore, and local renewable energy and storage capacity.
The initiative aims to mobilize around £15 billion in private investment, support about 10,000 jobs—especially in former oil and gas regions—and begin generating income by 2030.
Officials emphasize public ownership is intended to attract private finance, reduce reliance on imported energy, and accelerate the UK’s clean energy transition.
