The van Eerd family now fully owns HEMA after buying the remaining 50% stake, completing a strategic acquisition.
The van Eerd family, owners of Dutch supermarket Jumbo, has completed the acquisition of full control of department store HEMA by buying the remaining 50% stake from investor Parcom.
The deal, which follows a 2021 joint purchase, makes Mississippi Ventures the sole owner.
HEMA, which reported a €93 million operating profit last year after a €200 million loss in 2020, will remain independent with all 17,000 employees retained.
The transaction requires approval from the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets and input from HEMA’s work council.
Both companies emphasize the strategic value of the move, with HEMA planning store renovations and expansion into Belgium and France.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
