UK bans Nike, Superdry, and Lacoste ads for false green claims.
Ads for Nike, Superdry, and Lacoste were banned in the UK for making misleading sustainability claims, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) ruled.
The regulator found the brands used terms like “sustainable” and “eco-friendly” without sufficient evidence, particularly failing to prove products had no environmental impact across their entire life cycle.
Nike’s “Sustainable Materials” claim, Superdry’s “Sustainable Style,” and Lacoste’s “For the Kids” ad were deemed unsubstantiated despite partial sustainability efforts.
The ASA emphasized that environmental claims must be clear, accurate, and backed by verifiable data, especially as consumers seek greener options.
All three companies removed the ads and committed to more responsible future messaging.
