Supreme Court hears bail plea of Delhi riots accused, citing lack of evidence and trial delays.
On December 2, 2025, the Supreme Court heard arguments in the bail pleas of activists Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, and Gulfisha Fatima, accused in the 2020 Delhi riots case under the UAPA.
Their lawyers challenged the prosecution’s claims of a pan-India conspiracy and regime change, noting these are absent from the chargesheet and lack physical evidence.
They cited prolonged trial delays, including a 334-day pause due to missing documents, and argued that continued detention without framed charges violates rights.
The Delhi Police maintained the violence was pre-planned and linked to a broader conspiracy.
The court reserved judgment.
