Optus outage in Brisbane and Queensland, caused by server failure, disrupted NBN internet and landlines for up to 95,000 customers on Dec. 3, 2025, affecting emergency calls from landlines.
Optus is dealing with a widespread outage affecting NBN internet and landline services in Brisbane and parts of Queensland, starting as early as 4 a.m. on December 3, 2025, due to a server failure at a Rochedale facility.
Up to 95,000 customers were impacted, with some unable to make emergency Triple Zero calls from NBN-connected landlines, though mobile and Wi-Fi-based emergency calls remained functional.
The company apologized, confirmed restoration efforts were underway by 4 p.m. Queensland time, and advised customers to restart their modems.
The outage follows a series of recent network failures, including a fatal September 18 incident linked to three deaths, and a Senate inquiry is scheduled for December 9.
Mobile services were unaffected.
