In Nigeria, a $4.5B fraud trial proceeds as Henry Omoile’s voluntary statements are challenged, with a ruling delayed until Jan 2026.
In a $4.5 billion fraud trial in Nigeria, the EFCC testified that Henry Omoile, co-defendant of former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele, voluntarily gave statements in February 2024 without coercion, despite defense claims of duress.
EFCC operative Alvan Gurumnaan said Omoile, accompanied by his lawyer and the acting MD of NIBSS, made the statements in a public conference room, signed them, and was cautioned.
The court admitted four statements as evidence, though no video recordings were made, which Gurumnaan attributed to operational constraints.
The trial-within-trial to assess the statements’ validity was adjourned to January 15–16, 2026.
Both Emefiele and Omoile deny all charges.
