A judge rules Cher keeps 50% of royalties from her 1960s–70s hits, rejecting Mary Bono’s bid to revoke her rights.
A federal judge in Los Angeles has ruled again in favor of Cher in her lawsuit against Mary Bono, affirming Cher’s 50% share of royalties from her 1960s and 70s music partnership with Sonny Bono.
The judge rejected Bono’s attempt to revoke Cher’s rights under the Copyright Act, confirming Cher’s ongoing entitlement to royalties from hits like “I Got You Babe” and “The Beat Goes On,” as well as her right to receive payments directly despite selling her rights to Iconic Artists Group in 2022.
The decision, issued November 26, awards Cher costs on most claims, while Bono may recover costs on one claim.
