Indonesia and the Netherlands agree to repatriate two aging Dutch drug offenders, including one on death row, due to health concerns.
Indonesia and the Netherlands have agreed to repatriate two Dutch nationals imprisoned in Indonesia for drug offenses, including one on death row, citing humanitarian concerns due to their advanced age and poor health.
The deal, finalized on December 2, 2025, involves Siegfried Mets, 74, sentenced in 2008 for trafficking 600,000 ecstasy pills, and Ali Tokman, 65, convicted in 2014 for smuggling over six kilograms of MDMA.
They are expected to be transferred to the Netherlands by December 8.
The agreement follows diplomatic efforts by the Dutch government and reflects ongoing cooperation on prisoner transfers, despite Indonesia’s strict drug laws and its use of the death penalty for drug crimes.
