The Town of Grimsby will spend $44,374 in 2026 to maintain weekly blue box recycling for 49 downtown businesses and organizations, following provincial rules shifting recycling responsibility from municipalities to product producers starting January 1, 2026.
Niagara Region will no longer collect recyclables from non-residential sites, prompting Grimsby to contract one of its existing providers to ensure service continuity during the Downtown Grimsby Reimagined construction project, which includes major infrastructure upgrades.
The move aims to reduce traffic disruptions and support small businesses that couldn’t afford the service independently.
Residential and public space recycling remains unchanged.
