The EU agreed to ban Russian gas imports by 2027, ending LNG imports by late 2026 and pipeline gas by autumn 2027.
The European Union has reached a political agreement to end imports of Russian gas by 2027, banning liquefied natural gas (LNG) by the end of 2026 and pipeline gas by autumn 2027.
The legally binding, phased ban is part of a broader effort to reduce dependence on Russian energy following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, with Russia’s share of EU gas dropping from 45% to 12% by October 2025.
The deal includes measures to prevent circumvention, such as stricter origin checks and harmonized penalties, and paves the way for a future ban on Russian oil imports.
The agreement awaits formal approval by the European Parliament and Council, with a final vote expected in December.
La UE acordó prohibir las importaciones de gas ruso para 2027, poner fin a las importaciones de GNL para finales de 2026 y de gas de gasoducto para el otoño de 2027.
