British ex-military instructor Ross Cutmore arrested in Kyiv for alleged spying for Russia, faces up to 12 years in prison.
British national Ross David Cutmore, a former military instructor in Ukraine, was arrested in Kyiv by Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) in late October 2024 on charges of spying for Russia’s FSB.
Authorities allege he provided intelligence on Ukrainian and foreign military personnel and training sites, received $6,000 for his services, and was instructed to build explosives and retrieve weapons.
Detained without bail, he faces up to 12 years in prison if convicted.
Ukraine’s Prosecutor General confirmed his British nationality, and the UK foreign ministry said it is in contact with Ukrainian officials.
The case highlights ongoing security concerns about foreign operatives in Ukraine amid the war.
