Prescribed burns are scheduled to begin December 2, 2025, in Mesa County and Summit County, Colorado, to reduce wildfire risk by clearing slash piles.
In Mesa County, burns will occur through April 2026 across multiple sites including Farmers Canyon, Black Rocks, and areas near Grand Junction, managed by the Bureau of Land Management.
In Summit County, burns will take place from December 2 to 5 in Silverthorne, Breckenridge, and Frisco, with ignitions starting around 9:30 a.m. and smoke visible from nearby roads.
Crews will monitor sites overnight and for days after, and additional locations may be added with 24-hour notice.
Residents are encouraged to sign up for alerts to stay informed.
