Nebraska audit finds Medicaid fraud in personal care program, with false claims and safety risks.
Nebraska State Auditor Mike Foley’s office has found evidence of Medicaid fraud in the state’s Personal Assistance Program, revealing caregivers submitted inflated, duplicate, or false claims.
Some billed for hundreds of hours weekly while holding full-time jobs, including one who claimed 66 hours of care while driving a school bus.
Others were paid for services during times they couldn’t have been provided, and one caregiver concealed a sex offender living in their home.
The audit identified about $19,300 in questionable spending and highlighted serious oversight failures by the Department of Health and Human Services.
The findings, part of a broader annual review, were forwarded to law enforcement, with Foley urging immediate corrective action to protect public funds and client safety.
