A man stole a $33,585 Fabergé locket and swallowed it during a shoplifting attempt in Auckland.

A 32-year-old man has been charged with theft after allegedly swallowing a $33,585 Fabergé locket, the James Bond Octopussy Egg pendant, during a suspected shoplifting incident at an Auckland jewellery store. Police responded quickly Friday afternoon, arresting the suspect at the scene. The 18ct yellow gold pendant, set with diamonds, sapphires, and a golden octopus with black diamond eyes, remains unrecovered. The man was remanded in custody and appeared in Auckland District Court, with a next hearing scheduled for Monday. Authorities are continuing their investigation.
