Social media influencer Keith Castillo, known as “povwolfy,” is facing widespread criticism for posting videos of himself giving 18-inch machetes and alcohol to homeless individuals in multiple U.S. cities.
The clips, shared in November and around Thanksgiving, drew millions of views.
Castillo, 29, claims he consulted law enforcement, who told him the actions were legal, and says the machetes are meant to help people feel safer.
He plans to continue the activities in Las Vegas, Los Angeles’ Skid Row, and New York City in January, carrying about 30 machetes.
Critics, including a retired NYPD sergeant, warn the combination of weapons and alcohol poses serious safety risks.
