Prosecutors allege the abuse occurred in multiple hospital areas, including patient rooms and a bathroom, with Rivers threatening victims using a syringe.
The victims, who did not know one another, came forward after a civil lawsuit revealed a pattern of abuse.
Rivers, who worked at the facility from 1993 to 2004, faces three counts of criminal sexual assault and two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault.
He was arrested, ordered held without bond, and appeared in court, where Cook County State’s Attorney Eileen O’Neill Burke called the allegations horrific and commended the survivors’ courage.
The hospital, now Hartgrove Behavioral Health System, has not commented.
