Dairy milk testers in BC began a strike over low mileage pay and lack of wage increases.
Nine dairy milk testers in British Columbia began a strike on November 25 after 20 months of stalled talks with Lactanet, their employer.
The workers, who test milk from over 400 farms, are demanding higher mileage pay, currently $0.41 per kilometre, which they say doesn’t cover actual driving costs to remote locations.
They also say they rely on second jobs to survive.
The BCGEU is pushing Lactanet to resume negotiations.
BC Dairy confirmed mandatory milk quality inspections will continue unaffected.
Lactanet has not publicly responded.
