Bolivia has eliminated visa requirements for travelers from the U.S., Israel, South Korea, South Africa, and several eastern European countries, allowing entry with just a valid passport for up to 90 days.
The move, announced by President Rodrigo Paz, marks a shift from previous policies under Evo Morales, who imposed restrictions and severed ties with Israel.
The change aims to boost tourism, generate $80 million in revenue over four years, and stabilize Bolivia’s economy amid a critical U.S. dollar shortage.
Despite a U.S. level 2 travel advisory for civil unrest and a level 4 warning for the Chapare region, where Morales is believed to be, the government is pursuing tax cuts and increased borrowing to support economic reforms.
