A Dhaka court has sentenced former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to five years in prison and her niece, UK Labour MP Tulip Siddiq, to two years in absentia on corruption charges tied to the alleged illegal allocation of a Dhaka land plot during Hasina’s tenure.
Hasina’s sister, Sheikh Rehana, received a seven-year sentence as the main defendant.
The case, linked to a government housing project, alleges political influence and collusion, with all three fined 100,000 taka ($1,250) each.
