A woman fined $500 for carrying a folding knife in public must provide biometric data.
A 38-year-old Armidale woman, Kylie Kitchener, was fined $500 and ordered to provide biometric data after pleading guilty to carrying a 7cm folding knife in public. Police found the knife and several resealable bags in her handbag during a stop on October 11, initially suspecting drug activity. Kitchener claimed she was transporting the knife for a friend flying to Melbourne, where knives are banned on planes, and said she never intended to use it. Magistrate Alexander Mijovich emphasized the seriousness of carrying a knife in public, even unintentionally, and noted it should have been disposed of at an airport. The knife was forfeited, and Kitchener must report to Armidale police within seven days for fingerprinting and photographing.
