UAE pledges $1B to Yemen’s clean energy, powering 2–3M homes via solar/wind, cutting emissions and creating jobs.
The UAE has pledged $1 billion to Yemen’s energy sector through Global South Utilities, aiming to deliver clean power to 2–3 million homes via solar and wind projects.
The investment, announced at the Yemen First National Energy Conference, supports modernizing infrastructure, creating over 6,000 jobs, cutting more than 17 million tonnes of carbon emissions, and saving 1.25 billion kWh of conventional fuel.
Projects in Aden and Shabwa are already underway, with the Shabwa plant operational and Aden’s set for completion in 2026, together powering over one million homes.
Expansion includes additional solar installations, storage upgrades, and grid improvements across multiple governorates.
GSU also acquired a 51% stake in Uzbekistan’s Yashil Energiya, marking the UAE’s first renewable energy entry in the Commonwealth of Independent States.
