Two Texas men charged with plotting a violent takeover of Haiti’s Gonâve Island, aiming to kill men and enslave women and children, face life in prison.
Two North Texas men, Gavin Weisenburg, 21, and Tanner Thomas, 20, have been federally charged with plotting a violent takeover of Haiti’s Gonâve Island, allegedly aiming to murder its male population and enslave women and children.
Prosecutors say they spent nearly a year preparing, including studying Haitian Creole, purchasing weapons, seeking a sailboat, and recruiting mercenaries.
Both men, who had military and emergency service training, face life in prison on conspiracy charges and additional decades for child pornography allegations.
The case is ongoing in Texas federal court.
