Solar power surged in 2025, leading record U.S. electricity growth and surpassing wind and hydropower.
U.S. power generation is seeing record growth driven by AI data centers and electrification, with solar energy leading new capacity additions—accounting for 88% of new power capacity in 2025 and projected to supply 9.7% of national electricity by September.
Utility-scale solar generation rose 36.1% year-on-year, surpassing wind and hydropower, while renewables overall supplied 25.6% of U.S. electricity, up from 24.2% in 2024.
